Washington D.C. - Day 2

Sunday was our next day in the city. We wanted to make it a day where we went to see things that didn't require too many people to work. We started out by going to the White House Visitor Center where we learned a little bit more about the rooms in the White House. We are big fans of the T.V. series West Wing and enjoyed learning more about the White House. Also at the information desk we were given a map of the city which was a huge help (we wish we had it yesterday). We then made our way to see the White House itself. It was amazing to see and was so beautiful. Although I thought it was small compared to the Capitol.


Next we walked around the National Mall. We saw the Vietnam Memorial and I was amazed by how many names there were. We then saw the Lincoln Memorial which was huge and so beautiful. That was a neat experience. The reflection pool was drained because of it being winter time and that was really sad. We then saw the Korean War Memorial, and the WWII Memorial. At the WWII memorial we enjoyed reading the different quotes that were engraved and we had to find Utah and Idaho that was engraved as well. It is amazing the price that is paid for freedom and I will forever be grateful to our soldiers for that. We then walked across the street to see the Washington Monument which was HUGE! We did not go up in the monument but we enjoyed a break from walking as we took in the view of the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol building.





After our feet were rested Micah wanted to visit the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. On our way we saw the Jefferson memorial across the lake. The Bureau was closed for the day and also for President's Day which was a bummer. After that we decided to go back to the American History Museum to see what we didn't get to yesterday. At the American History Museum we saw the Lincoln Exhibit which was amazing. They had Lincoln's hat, and a cuff with Lincoln's blood from the night he was shot. After that we saw the costume for Ninja Turtles, Julia Child's kitchen, an amazing coin collection, Dorothy's ruby red slippers, Michael Jackson's hat, and C3PO






After the museum closed we decided to try and find dinner. Now here is the thing, they don't make it easy to find a common fast food restaurant in Washington D.C. The whole we could not find a Subway to eat at even though we know there was a couple in the city. Instead we found a McDonalds which wasn't our first choice but it would have to do. After eating dinner Micah really wanted to go see the Washington D.C. Temple. It was a little bit of a travel and with out having looked up directions I was a little bit hesitant but Micah knew a little bit about how to get there so I reluctantly agreed. We got on the metro and made it to the correct stop. Micah then knew that we needed to take the number 4 bus which would drop us off right in front of the Temple. We got to the bus stop and there were a few different number 4's (or we didn't know how to read a bus map). At this point I was a little freaked out to be in a strange city and not knowing what we were doing. I that point I said that we probably shouldn't move forward without knowing exactly what to do (but it not in the nicest way which I apologized for later). We got back on the metro and headed back to our hotel for a good nights rest.

P.S. I forgot that the day before we were getting some food and Micah heard some Italian behind us. While we were waiting for our food He asked them if they were Italian. They were and Micah talked with them. When we got our food we invited them to sit with us if they would like and we enjoyed a fun discussion with them.
