Washington D.C. - Day 3

Sorry it took me so long to post the 3rd day but our camera ran out of battery while on our trip and we had to use Micah's phone. It took sometime to get the pictures from Micah's phone and then uploaded.

Anyway on our 3rd day we started by heading to Arlington to see Arlington Cemetery. We saw the Monument of Iwo Jima, JFK's tomb, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. It was amazing the amount of white grave stones were in the cemetery and it was such a beautiful and peaceful place. We also saw the Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers and that was a neat experience. We also found a tomb with Heidi on it so of course we had to take a picture.

After we headed back to Washington D.C. and went to see the capitol. It was so big and really beautiful and across the street was the Supreme Court building. Then we went to the Holocaust museum. We don't have any pictures but the experience was beyond words. During school we learn about the Holocaust but I was absolutely amazed at the information in that museum.


After that Micah wanted to take a trip to the temple but with directions this time and what an adventure it was. We got off of the metro and an elderly fellow asked if we knew where we were going. He was really nice but I was a little cautious when he was wearing a trench coat. He pointed us in the right direction and we were off. We had to walk because we apparently don't know how the bus system works. It is late at night and you have to walk this road that makes a big curve before you get to the temple. This was about a 30 minute walk and half of the time there was no sidewalk and the road was narrow. It was a little interesting but boy were we happy when we made it to the temple grounds. The Washington D.C. Temple is beautiful and it seems so much taller then the other temples I have seen. Luckily the visitors center was still open so we went inside and saw the Christus and talked with the missionaries there. We decided to ask about the bus and they gave us the bus pamphlet we needed. They then told us that the bus doesn't come this late at night (Not the long walk back to the metro). One of the Senior missionaries gave us a ride back to the metro which was very nice of them. We got on the metro and realized that we didn't have enough time to make it back to our hotel for our luggage and make it back to the bus stop before the bus left. We stayed hopeful but our bus left at 9:00 p.m. and we made it to our hotel around 8:50 p.m. and there was no way we were going to make it. SO we missed our bus ride back. We booked another night at the hotel, reserved bus tickets for the next morning, and Micah called his boss to break the news about missing our ride back and having to miss work the next morning. It was a bit stressful but everything worked out great. We made it back safely and were looking forward to relaxing (after Micah got back from work of course).
