ONE!!!

It is official we have a one year old in our home. It is amazing that time went by that fast but she is sure acting more grown up. 

We started the day by singing happy birthday to her when she woke up (this is one of my family traditions we plan to keep in our family). Micah headed to work but would be taking half the day off since we had both Clara's birthday and our anniversary to celebrate. At 10:01 am she was officially one and we enjoyed some chocolate ice cream together. Clara didn't really like it at first but she warmed up to it a little bit. 

When Micah got home we enjoyed some more ice cream together and found out Clara likes caramel a lot more. After that Clara opened her presents. She got some fun stacking cups, a music toy to entertain her in the car, and a Giggling Gourmet shopping cart. She had a blast playing with all of them until we had to drop her off at the baby sitters. We went to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Her birthday party would be the next day.

Saturday night we got together with a bunch of our friends at a park and had a storybook birthday party. We kept it pretty simple. The invitation said, "Come celebrate the beginning of a new chapter as we celebrate Clara's 1st birthday.".

We had a little bit of food at the party and everything was related to a storybook. We had chicken salad on croissant rolls (Goodnight Moon), fruit salad (The Very Hungry Catapillar), a vegetable tray (Peter Rabbit), chocolate chip cookies ( If you Give a Mouse a Cookie), meatballs (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), and goldfish (The Rainbow Fish). Micah even decorated the cake to look like a book. Then we had cupcakes for everyone else. (Sorry I didn't take pictures of everything and everyone. Fail!)

The party turned out great! Apart from the crazy amount of mosquitoes. They were everywhere and we were eaten alive but we still tried to make the best of it. Clara didn't love her cake but took a couple of bites. She mostly wiped her hands on the table cloth trying to get the frosting off. We loved having our "family" there to celebrate with us and to have Clara's little friends for her to play with. We were grateful everyone stuck out the mosquitoes and stayed as long as they could. It was the perfect way to celebrate!
