Hold Up in Nebraska

On Sunday we began our travel through Nebraska. It didn't take long to get from Cheyenne, Wyoming across the border into Nebraska but the weather wasn't so great. It was snowing when we left and it was extremely dry. The roads weren't extremely bad but when a car would pass by in the other lane it would kick up the snow and made it difficult to see. Then add that with the wind and it wasn't the best experience. Everyone was driving slow and we kept calling 511 to see what the roads up ahead were like. We heard that the after North Platte the road was closed due to an accident but there was a detour. Micah decided it might be best to stay the night in North Platte, and we pulled off, found a nice Marriott to stay in and relaxed the rest of the day. We also were able to enjoy a delicious meal at Ruby Tuesdays across the parking lot. The next morning it wasn't snowing but the road conditions online didn't look the best and Micah decided to wait another day before heading out. He talked with a family moving from Chicago to California and they said the accident was with semi trucks and it was the worst they had ever seen before. I guess several semi trucks add skidded off the road but no one was hurt. We were quite board but we played Yahtzee, watched TV, took naps and surfed the Internet. The picture below is just a small example of the accident. There were several cars and semi trucks that had skidded off the road. I had never seen so many cars in the median!

The next day was sunny and we decided we would brave it and see how the roads were. We were surprised to find they weren't too bad. We made great time and were able to make it all the way through Nebraska . . . finally. Nebraska had some interesting named cities like Friend, and this picture of an overpass (I think) that is quite decorated. We are only a day behind schedule but more to come later.
