Our First Day we started by having to say good bye to our wonderful "land lords" if you can call them that. They were more like family while we were there. They would always have us over for dinner, bring desserts up for us to enjoy, and would let me use all of their craft material. They were wonderful and we really miss them. It was hard to say good bye.
Then we started out towards Kirtland. It was about a 6 hour drive which would be one of the smaller drives but we were excited to get to our hotel for the night. The next morning we stopped by Kirtland, OH. When we first got there the LDS visitor center wasn't open yet so we went touring the kirtland cemetary and found this grave stone.
Once the visitor center opened, we had a tour from a sweet senior couple of the replicated town. We went into the Newel K. Whitney store and the Johnson hotel. It was neat experience! They shared a story about when the school of the prophets was taking place in the Newel K. Whitney store, Joseph gave the revelation of the Word of Wisdom and all the men threw their pipes into the fireplace. Later on while they were excavating the land they found a collection of pipes over where the aAshery would have been and believed it might be from that experience.
Then we headed up to the Kirtland Temple which is owned by the Community of Christ. We had a tour with them and it was so neat to see the pulpits that I had always seen in pictures. The tour was a little different when compared to the LDS missionary tour but when they shared the story of the dedication of the temple and the experiences that were said to have take place, there was a neat feeling. It is magnificent that the saints were able to build such a wonderful building. It was also neat to see in their little museum Emma Smith's hymn book.
